Leak Detection

Burst or Leaking Pipes

Left unattended leaking water can cause a great deal of damage. We can inspect your pipes, detect any leaks and repair as required regardless of where your pipes may be located.

If you suspect you have a leak: turn off all taps on your property, including toilet taps, washing machine taps, and dishwasher taps. Check the reading on your water meter, wait several minutes and check again. If the reading has changed or if you can see the dial rotating, you probably have a water leak that needs urgent repair.

Signs you may have a leaking or burst pipe

You may have a burst or leaking pipe if you notice any of the following signs:

  • A wet patch in your yard/garden. You may notice increased lawn growth in a particular spot.
  • Banging (hammering) or metallic noises when running water
  • Damp patches on dry walls or ceilings
  • Sound of water dripping or running
  • Unusual odours or mould growth
  • Slight loss of water pressure
  • Increased water usage

Common Causes of Damaged Pipes

Whatever the cause of your damaged water pipe, the important thing is to act right away - before additional damage to your property. WL Chivers Plumbing will respond to your call quickly. We will detect the leak and provide a permanent solution with prompt, courteous, and reliable service.

  • It's quite common for interior flexible hoses to wear out and require replacement. It is well worth checking such hoses for small leaks on a regular basis.
  • Older metal pipework can deteriorate over time due to rust and corrosion.
  • Incorrectly installed pipes and fittings will eventually fail leading to leaks and potential bursts.
  • Clogged pipes caused by calcification from hard water or other built up material can lead to excessive water pressure. Excessive water pressure may eventually cause small leaks or even complete rupture of a water pipe.
  • Soil movement can cause damage to underground pipes. Seismic activity, nearby construction work, or even rapid temperature changes could potentially affect your underground pipes.
  • Accidental damage to pipes can sometimes happen during renovations or landscaping projects, and occasionally when consumers attempt their own plumbing repairs.
