Drain relining is a process by which blocked and damaged drainage pipes are repaired permanently and cost effectively utilising Cured In Place Pipe (CIPP) polyester resin technology. There is no need to dig up your pipes with invasive excavation work when you can reline instead.

The Drain Relining Process

Drainage pipe relining is a mature technology that has been in use for over 25 years. The Chivers Plumbing specialist drainage team are highly trained and experienced in the process of relining damaged and blocked pipes.

Drain Camera Inspection

A specialised CCTV camera is inserted into the drain to locate and identify the cause of the blockage and damage to the pipe.

Unblocking the Drain

Depending on the nature of the blockage our team will use high-pressure water jetting, mechanical cutting tools, or a combination of both to clear the drain pipe.

Liner Preparation

A flexible, resin coated liner is measured and cut to fit the length of the damaged section of pipe. Repairs may be performed on sections of pipe shorter than one metre, up to virtually any length and through multiple bends.

Liner Insertion

The resin liner is inserted into the damaged pipe and inflated, causing it to mould itself tightly to the pipe's interior.

Curing the Resin Liner

Heat is used to cure and harden the resin creating a permanent repair to the damaged pipe which, in most cases, will out perform and outlast the original drain.

Final Drain Inspection

The drain camera is reinserted into the pipe to inspect and ensure the integrity of the completed repair. Of course, all work carried out by Chivers Plumbing's specialist drainage repair team is fully insured and guaranteed.

The Benefits of CIPP Drain Relining

Formally, repairing a damaged drain pipe often required the pipe to be removed and replaced. This usually involved an excavator to expose the pipe, sometimes finding it necessary to dig through paving, paths, driveways, garden beds, etc.

The more modern technique of trenchless pipe repair has a number of significant benefits to home owners:

Cost Savings

Relining a drain is generally far more cost effective than excavating and replacing a pipe. It is quicker, requires less labour hours, fewer materials and usually does not need heavy machinery, such as an excavator, to be brought onsite.

Less Invasive

We can complete most repairs without the need to disturb your garden beds or to damage your paving, paths, driveway, or buildings. In some cases it can even save tree removals.

Long-Term Solutions

A well performed repair, carried out by highly trained and experienced plumbers, will mean that the repaired pipe will be more durable and will often out-perform the original drainage work. No-dig pipe relining can resolve long term problems with minimal disruption.

Pipe Relining is a Specialised Service

There is far more to the process of pipe relining than simply inserting a new liner into an old pipe. It is just not that simple. In order for the project to be completed successfully the preparation and groundwork must be first class. This means correctly diagnosing the underlying issues, thoroughly clearing and removing all roots and other debris, reinstating pipe junctions, and of course, absolute quality control through the process of inserting, fitting, and curing the resin liner.

A bad relining job can fail just as any bad plumbing can fail.

That’s why at Chivers Plumbing we continue to invest heavily into better equipment and training for our staff and why we never cut corners.

Common Questions Regarding Pipe Relining

What are the benefits of Cured In Place Pipe (CIPP) pipe relining?

Whenever appropriate, CIPP relining has many benefits over excavating and replacing damaged pipes:

  • Cost effective: it is usually significantly cheaper to reline than to excavate and replace.
  • Less Disruption: trench-less pipe relining often means that the repairs can be completed without damage to your landscaping, paving, paths, driveway or other items.
  • Durability: a well completed pipe reline will provide a long term and highly functional solution to a blocked and damaged drain pipe.
Can all damaged drains be relined?

No-dig drain relining can be used in most but not all cases in which a blocked drain has become damaged. In some situations, the only option to repair a pipe is to excavate and replace the damaged sections.

Our expert specialist drainage plumbers will be able to advise you as to the best solution for your specific needs.

Will pipe relining reduce drainage capacity?

No. The cured epoxy resin used to reline drainage pipes is actually much smoother than older terracotta or concrete pipes. It is highly likely that the relined pipe will clear water more efficiently than the original pipe.

How long will a relined pipe last?

If the pipe is relined correctly, using quality materials, the new drainage pipe should provide reliable service for up to sixty years. The service life of a relined pipe is easily comparable to the service life of most options for traditional pipe replacement.
